What Did I Think?

This is the second book in the Joplin Chronicles and although it can be read as a standalone, I would recommend reading book one (Courting Misfortune) first because it gives you insight into the short-lived relationship she had with Silas Marsh. I always like reading about the Characters that Regina Jennings creates, but I have to say that I love Maisie! She is so sweet, yet kind of Tom-boyish and I love how she isn’t afraid to say what’s on her mind (which makes for some HILARIOUS situations!!) I also loved reading about how Maisie and Boone started their marriage as a business proposal and yet, start to fall in love while wrestling with each other on the floor. Another awesome detail is the Crystal Cave that Maisie and Boone found because it was a real attraction! Regina Jennings described it in such a way that I wish I could have seen it because I feel like it would be the most remarkable sight!

Overall, this book is hilarious and was so good that I read it in one afternoon. I loved everything about it and it’s definitely going to be one I read over and over. This book was also a great reminder to me that God has a plan for each of us, even when we don’t see it and it also reminded me that when you find the person God created just for you (husband or wife), they won’t want to change you, because they love you for just the way you are. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars and recommend it to anyone!

One blizzard. Two friends. Three days to fall in love.

Lifelong islander Brooke Kane doesn’t know what to do with her college degree, her dreams, or her future, but she knows better than to venture far from home when there’s a storm brewing. But a promise to check on Rose’s Red Door Inn prompts Brooke to venture out. By the time she arrives at the inn, the snow is knee-deep and visibility almost non-existent. She settles in to spend a few days alone at the inn until a familiar figure appears at the door.

Pastor Chuck O’Flannigan has never felt like a bigger fool. So focused on his recent decision to leave Prince Edward Island, he’s caught unaware by the blizzard while on a walk. He can only see the inn’s red door, a promise of safety. But when he discovers that Brooke—the only woman who could tempt him to stay on the island—is also taking refuge there, he knows he’s in trouble.

With Christmas only three days away, Brooke is determined that they’ll celebrate—even if it’s just the two of them. Happy to play Scrooge to her Tiny Tim, Chuck wiles away his hours dreaming of a return to Ireland—praying that God may have plans for him there. After all, God seems to have forgotten him in North Rustico. But as Brooke brings Christmas to life, her joy makes him wonder if God may not have forgotten him. In fact, God may have big plans for both of them—if they can only survive Christmas at the Red Door Inn.

What Did I Think?

Deadly Target kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and it was almost impossible to put down! I loved all the plot twists and to be honest, the end was a complete surprise to me (on most mystery/suspense books, I can guess the ending, but this one kept me guessing!!). One of the parts that stood out to me was finding out why Erin did her “Missing Children” podcast. I couldn’t believe that she had been carrying around this super heavy burden (and why she wouldn’t get close to anyone) for so many years! As with all of Elizabeth Goddard’s previous books, the characters were amazing and this is definitely a book I would read over and over and I would recommend it to anyone. I will also say that even though it’s part of a series, it can be read as a standalone as well. Overall, I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

What Did I Think?

I’ve been waiting to read this book ever since I finished Night Fall (the first book in the series) and I was not disappointed because this one was downright amazing!! It’s the second book in the series, but it can be read as a stand alone; however, I suggest reading Night Fall first because you will understand Alex and Logan more. This book was a bit intense at times and really made you think about what would you do if you were put in such a situation and although there were a few people who were killed, none of their murders were graphically described. A few things that I loved about the book was that we got to see Alex grow in her faith and I loved how her friendship with Kaely helped her to be more confident – both as a person and as a profiler. Oh, did I mention that my favorite character Kaely Quinn from Mind Games, Fire Storm and Dead End (Kaely Quinn, Profiler series) is one of the main characters! I was thrilled to see yet another side of Kaely because normally she is so reckless in her pursuit of justice that she doesn’t care about anyone else; however, in this book she is a part of a team, so she was more responsible and it added another layer to already complex character. Overall, this book was impossible to put down and it’s definitely one of the best Christian suspense books I’ve read this year!! Definitely a must read for anyone who likes a good edge-of-your-seat thriller that has so many twists and turns that it’s almost impossible to guess who the UNSUB (killer) was – I rate it 5 out of 5 stars!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

The Bookish Details

Click here to get your copy!

What Did I Think?

First of all, even though this book is part of the Coventry Saga series, it can be read as a stand alone; however, the previous books are all so amazing that I would encourage you to read them too – even if you read this one first. In this book, Carly Garcia finds herself in a difficult situation (carrying the child of her ex) and when she goes to tell him about the child, she ends up witnessing his murder. As she was escaping the crime scene, the killers see her and she becomes their next target. Finding no other alternative, she turns to her high school sweetheart, Braden Reilly for help; however, he isn’t happy about it because she broke his heart several years ago. What follows is an unforgettable adventure filled with danger, suspense, love and forgiveness.

A few things I really liked about this book was how relatable the characters were – how they were a bit flawed and still made mistakes (sometimes characters can seem too perfect) I also liked how throughout the story, you can see the power of prayer working and I loved seeing each of the characters put their faith in action. Overall, I loved visiting with the characters of Coventry again and even though some parts weren’t my favorite, the overall story was great. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes romantic suspense and give it 4 out of 5 stars.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

What Did I Think?

This book contains the perfect combination of humor, romance and history. Then, to make it even better, the author added a dash of danger and suspense! The author crafted a story that was so well written and had so many details, that I felt like I had visited the Grand Canyon. One of my favorite parts of the book, were the interactions between Grace and Ray, because some of them were funny, some were a bit awkward and the rest were sweet and romantic. I’ve read a few books that feature the Harvey Girls, so I was excited to see another glimpse into their lives and I wasn’t disappointed. Every time I read about them, I am impressed by their discipline and patience; however, this book also showed me that they considered themselves a family and they took care of their own. Another thing I loved reading about, was how Emma grew in her faith. She had her doubts and honestly felt abandoned by God; however, the events of her past and the people that God put in her life, all helped to show her just how much he loved her .Overall, I loved reading this book and can’t think of anything I would change. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars and would recommend it to anyone who likes Historical Fiction

Rating: 5 out of 5.

First Line Fridays #69 – Behind the Scenes by Jen Turano

Hi Readers, Happy Friday!

I don’t have much time to write today, but I wanted to stop by and share with you the first line of one of the books I’m currently reading (seriously, I really shouldn’t read multiple books at a time!!), Anyway, I’m currently reading Deadly Target by Elizabeth Goodard on my Kindle and Behind the Scenes by Jen Turano which is paperback, so it was a bit hard to decide which first line to share; however, I finally decided to share the first line from… Behind the Scenes by Jen Turano! So without further ado here’s the first line.

“Pressing her nose against the glass of the carriage window, Miss Permilia Griswold felt her stomach begin to churn as she took note of the throngs of people lining Fifth Avenue.. ”

First line of Behind the Scenes by Jen Turano.

From the Back Cover

Miss Permilia Griswold may have been given the opportunity of a debut into New York high society, but no one warned her she wasn’t guaranteed to “take.” After spending the last six years banished to the wallflower section of the ballroom, she’s finally putting her status on the fringes of society to good use by penning anonymous society gossip columns under the pseudonym “Miss Quill.”

Mr. Asher Rutherford has managed to maintain his status as a reputable gentleman of society despite opening his own department store. While pretending it’s simply a lark to fill his time, he has quite legitimate reasons for needing to make his store the most successful in the country.
When Permilia overhears a threat against the estimable Mr. Rutherford, she’s determined to find and warn the man. Disgruntled at a first meeting that goes quite poorly and results in Asher not believing her, she decides to take matters into her own hands, never realizing she’ll end up at risk as well.

As Asher and Permilia are forced to work together and spend time away from the spotlight of society, perhaps there’s more going on behind the scenes than they ever could have anticipated. . . .

He opened his mouth to speak, but Cook came into the room and all eyes fell on her.“ Now, I don’t want to hear any more gums flappin’,” Cook’s voice boomed as she bustled around the men, first setting the dishes of food down and then placing napkins in their laps. “Y’all best be eatin’ up!” Brandon smiled at the woman. How did she always know? “Not this second!” She slapped Dan’s hand when he reached for the serving fork. “You knowhow we do things. Grace first.” Dan glared at her but withdrew his hand. Brandon gave the men a once over and then bowed his head, returning thanks for the food. Only then did Cook nod and return to the kitchen. About The Author

Sara is a coffee lovin’, word slinging, clean Historical Romance author whose super power is converting caffeine into novels. She loves those odd little tidbits of history that are stranger than fiction. That’s what inspires her. Well, that and a good love story.

But of all the love stories she knows, hers is her favorite. She lives happily with her own Prince Charming and their gaggle of minions. Three to be exact. They sure know how to distract a writer! But, alas, the stories must be written, even if it must happen in the wee hours of the morning.

Sara is an avid reader and also enjoys reading clean Historical Romance when she’s not traveling. Her books range from the Czech lands to the American Wild West and from ancient Egypt to the early 1900s. Some of her titles include The Lady Bornekova, Hope in Cripple Creek, The General’s Wife, Trail of Fears, and the Convenient Risk Series.

I love all of Jody Hedlund’s books and this book didn’t disappoint me at all! I especially loved all the details that she includes about the flora and fauna throughout the Santa Fe Trail. The main characters, Linnea and Flynn are so dynamic and relatable and I love how much they grow throughout the story; however, Flynn’s younger sister Ivy may have stolen the show as my favorite character in this book. I found myself laughing out loud at her hilarious commentary and I loved that she didn’t seem to have a filter (she was beyond outspoken). I also enjoyed reading about Linnea’s struggles and triumphs with being a female scientist during a time when only men worked in that field. I found myself rooting for her in multiple areas (her science and her relationship with Flynn) and it made the book incredibly hard to put down! I also loved the last chapter of the book, because it was the perfect ending to this sweet and heartwarming story For me, this story had everything – suspense, a dash of danger and of course romance and I would recommend it to anyone who likes historical fiction.
