Hi Readers, Happy Friday! I’m so excited to share with you the first line from another book on my TBR pile.
I’ve been curious about this book because DiAnn Mills is an awesome author, yet hesitant at the the same time because the story contains snakes and I HATE snakes. Anyway, here’s the first line and we’ll discover together if it will be our next “must read”. So without further ado, the first line from Fatal Strike by DiAnn Mills.
Special Agent Leah Riesel scanned the headlines on her phone.
First line of Fatal Strike by DiAnn Mills
What?!? that’s the first line? Well, I guess I’ll have to read the book to find out if it’s a “must read” or not. 😉
How about you, have you read this book? If so, what did you think?
From the back cover
There’s a killer on the loose in Galveston, targeting law enforcement officials and using a fatal injection of snake venom to take them down. Authorities have reasons to believe the Veneno gang is behind the hits, and FBI Agents Leah Riesel and Jon Colbert team up to track down those responsible. Their best lead is an eyewitness who identifies a young man dumping the third body on a church doorstep. But their suspect has gone into hiding, and those closest to him are reluctant to reveal anything that might help investigators find him.
As Leah and Jon check connections among the victims and dig deeper into motives, they discover appearances may be deceiving. Someone is desperate to keep their secrets hidden, and Leah and Jon must face their greatest fears in order to stop the next fatal strike.

One thing I want you to remember this Valentines, is that God loves you so much! I saw an awesome t-shirt at Barnes and Noble yesterday that summed up God’s love perfectly (or as perfect as we human’s can), the shirt said “I love you to the cross and back. signed Jesus”. This was a great reminder to me of how much He loved me. That instead of a box of chocolates, Jesus gave me His life so that I could live with Him forever. 🙂
So, since today is Friday, and I’m trying to post about a book every Friday, I have another first line (well, lines) to share with you today and this one is a Historical Romance by one of my favorite authors, Karen Witemeyer!
“Don’t lose heart, children. We have several strong families lined up in Bonham. I’m sure we’ll find good homes for each of you.”
First couple of lines from More Than Meets the Eye by Karen Witemeyer

As always, thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a very blessed Valentines day!
I’m so excited to be able to share with you a fantastic book that I recently finished by Robin Patchen. Truthfully, I haven’t read a lot of books by this author; however, I really enjoyed reading this one! (I tell you more in my review)
So, without further ado, let me introduce you to Legacy Reclaimed.
The Bookish Details
Book: Legacy Reclaimed
Author: Robin Patchen
Genre: Romantic Christian Suspense
Release Date: February 11th 2020 (Tomorrow!!)
Series: Legacy Series, book 3.
From the Back Cover
She’ll risk anything to save the company her parents built. He’ll risk anything to save her. Someone will stop at nothing to make sure they both fail.
Chelsea Hamilton spent her life preparing to run the international clothing business her parents started, but she’s still caught off guard when she learns of her mother’s untimely death. Chelsea returns to New Hampshire, buries her mother, and prepares to take over the floundering business. When a stranger attempts to kill her, she realizes somebody doesn’t want her to inherit her legacy.
Private Investigator Dylan O’Donnell spends his time searching for lost teens. He doesn’t know what to think of the beautiful woman seeking his services. Hers isn’t the kind of case he’s accustomed to handling, and she isn’t the kind of client he quit his steady job to help, but something about the woman pulls at him. She’s in danger, and he can’t turn her away. But if he blows this very public case, his floundering business might not survive.
Together, they dig into her family’s secrets. The closer they get to the truth, the closer they grow to one another. Can Chelsea save the legacy her parents fought to leave her? Can Dylan save Chelsea from the enemies determined to see her dead?
Wow! That’s the first word that comes to my mind when I think about this book. As I mentioned above, I haven’t read a lot of books by this author, but I am SO glad that I was chosen to be on her launch team because I really enjoyed reading this story. I also know that this book is part of a series; however, I read it as a standalone. The book starts with a major cliff-hanger moment (literally, Chelsea was pushed off a mountain) and the suspense continues to build from there. Both of the main characters (Dylan and Chelsea) were relatable and I loved their relationship with each other.
One thing I really liked about both characters, was how real their faith was. How even in the toughest of times, with someone trying to kill them, they didn’t just rely on each other, they relied heavily on the Lord. One of my favorite parts was the moment when Dylan told Chelsea that the business wasn’t her parents legacy… she was. I also loved that even though Chelsea was a VERY rich young lady, she never acted snotty or like she was better then everyone else and she thought of others.
The one negative thing about the story was that some of the plot was a bit predictable. I was able to guess who the “bad guy” was before the middle of the book; however, there were enough twist and turns to keep my attention until the end confirmed my suspicions – making the book hard to put down. Overall, I think this book is definitely a must read and I would give it 4 out of 5 stars ****.
About the Author
Robin Patchen writes contemporary Christian suspense, romance, and romantic suspense. Her books are often set in New England, where she grew up. She creates strong, protective heroes and intelligent, courageous heroines. Aside from her family and her Savior, Robin Patchen has two loves–writing and traveling. If she could combine them, she’d spend a lot of time sitting in front of her laptop at sidewalk cafes and ski lodges and beachside burger joints. She’d visit every place in the entire world–twice, if possible–and craft stories and tell people about her Savior. Alas, time is too short and money is too scarce for Robin to traipse all over the globe, even if her husband and kids wanted to go with her. So she stays in Oklahoma, shares the Good News when she can, and writes to illustrate the unending grace of God through the power and magic of story.
Thanks for stopping by guys! Hope you enjoyed checking out this new book, I would love to know what you think of it or if it’s not quite your “cup of tea”
– Happy Reading:)
>>Special thanks to Robin Patchen for letting me read and review this book – all opinions are my own.

I’m so excited to be a part of another celebration tour with Celebrate Lit and this time I get to share about a new book by Misty M. Beller! This is the second book that I’ve read by her and this book did not disappoint – so without further ado, here’s Freedom in the Mountain Wind.
The Bookish Details
Book: Freedom in the Mountain Wind
Author: Misty M. Beller
Genre: Christian Historical Romance
Release Date: January 14, 2020
Series: Call of the Rockies
From the Back Cover
The last epic journey before her life changes forever.
Susanna Wilkins will do anything to make her father’s final dream come true, including trek along the path Lewis and Clark explored into the untamed wilds of the Rocky Mountains. Every mile is more crucial now that lung cancer is stealing Pa’s last days faster than she can come to terms with losing him. The journey becomes harder than she ever expected, but paddling upriver through fierce rapids and fighting hungry grizzlies isn’t what terrifies her the most.
Beaver Tail endured more than he can stand from the women in his Blackfoot camp, but the last disaster gave him the final shove he needed to join this band of brothers searching for one of their group who’s gone missing. The last thing he expected was to find a white woman and her sick father stranded at the base of massive waterfall. His plan is to help them carry their oversize canoe and supplies, then leave them to their strange mission. Yet, the more he learns about the pair, the more he realizes his life is about to be derailed—again.
From a USA Today bestselling author comes another epic journey through breathless landscapes and adventure so intense, lives will never be the same.
There’s so much I could say about this book! The first thing I loved was all the details the author used to describe the breathtaking scenary. Seriously, the way she described it made me want to pack a bag and go exploring in the mountains near my house.
Another thing I really liked was how diverse the characters were. The ones that stood out to me were Caleb (a gentle giant), Thad – Susanna’s Pa (a dying, yet determined man whose faith inspired those around him) Susanna, (a strong, yet caring, independent young woman) and Beaver Tail (a mysterious, observant, yet quiet Native American).
The storyline itself was very well written and by the end of the book, I felt like I had gone on the journey with Susanna and the others -unfortunately, this also meant that my heart broke at the end of the book. Overall if you like historical fiction, this is one journey you won’t want to miss. I rate this story 4 out of 5 stars****
A Word From Misty
When God Directs a Google Search…
I’m a history lover, but you may have guessed that since I write historical romance stories. Most of my books are set in the Rocky Mountains during the mid-1800s, but as I began brainstorming ideas for this new series, my heart became drawn earlier to the earlier part of the century—a time period with which I wasn’t quite as familiar with the history.
I love when God orchestrates even the most mundane part of our lives, including Google searches! During one particular search (I can’t even remember what I was originally looking for), I stumbled across part of a journal entry from the Lewis and Clark expedition, which trekked across Montana during the time period I was looking into. I’d forgotten that expedition had even entered the territory that would later become Montana, but now I was fascinated.
After finding an audiobook of the abridged journals of Lewis and Clark, I happily listened to almost 19 hours of fascinating stories from the Corp of Exploration’s journey up the Missouri River and across the mountains to the Pacific Ocean, then back mostly the over the same path they’d come. The stories the men told were so amazing, and the detail of their trials so absorbing, I’ve actually re-listened to the audiobook twice! Many of the true tales wouldn’t be believable in fiction, but as I listened, my mind formed the premise for Freedom in the Mountain Wind: a father/daughter duo who sets out almost two decades after Lewis and Clark’s journey, determined to retrace the steps of that famous expedition.
I hope you enjoy this story as much as I loved writing it! And whether you’re a history lover or not, I pray that you too will be touched by this “epic journey through breathless landscapes and adventure so intense, lives will never be the same.”

Hi Readers, Happy Sunday! I’m so blessed to be able to share with you Sarah E. Ladd’s latest book, The Thief of Lawyn Manor! So here we go,
The Bookish Details
Book: The Thief of Lanwyn Manor
Author: Sarah E. Ladd
Genre: Regency Romance
Release Date: January 7th 2020
Series: The Cornwall Novels- second book in the series
From the Back Cover
In this sweet Regency romance, Julia knows Matthew Blake, copper mine owner and very eligible bachelor, is the gentleman she should set her eyes upon. But why can’t she steal her gaze away from his younger brother, Isaac?
Cornwall, England 1818—Julia Twethewey needs a diversion to mend her broken heart, so when her cousin invites her to Lanwyn Manor, Julia eagerly accepts. Lanwyn Manor is at the heart of Cornwall’s mining industry, and as a guest Julia is swept into its intricate world. It’s not long, though, before she realizes something dark lurks in the home’s ancient halls.
As a respected mine owner’s younger son, Isaac Blake is determined to keep his late father’s legacy alive through the family business, despite his brother’s careless attitude. In order to save their livelihood—and the livelihood of those around them—the brothers approach the master of Lanwyn Manor with plans to bolster the floundering local industry. Isaac can’t deny his attraction to the man’s charming niece, but his brother has made his intentions to court the lovely guest clear. And Isaac knows his place.
When tragedy strikes, mysteries arise, and items go missing, Julia and Isaac find they are pulled together in a swirl of strange circumstances, but despite their own best efforts to bow to social expectations, their hearts aren’t so keen to surrender.
So I have a confession to make. The reason I picked up this book was because the cover was GORGEOUS!(that the author is one of my favorites was a plus!!) Anyway, this book is the second book in the Cornwall Novels Series; however, it could definitely be read as a standalone. The story is set in beautiful Cornwall England and the author describes it so vividly that you can almost see the foggy landscape. Another thing (besides the cover) that I really liked was that the book had such an exciting beginning! Seriously, the events in the first chapter helped set the tone for the entire book… and this book has everything! It has danger, suspense, mystery, romance, and even a ghost story. One thing I noticed was that the plot has a kind of a Pride and Prejudice feel, because the mining community have a lot of prejudice towards Julia (main character) because of her relatives. I don’t want to give any spoilers, but I will tell you that Julia does end up falling in love (of course!!); however, she falls in love with the wrong person… or so her family thinks.
Overall, this has to be one of my favorite books by Sarah E. Ladd and I would rate it 5 out of 5 stars.*****.
