Almost A Bride by Jody Hedlund-Review

Hi Readers!

I’m honored to be a part of Jody Hedlund’s launch team and I’m thrilled to be able to share with you her latest book, Almost A Bride — So here we go! 🙂

Book info from Amazon.

From The Back Cover

Always close, but never a bride.

Longing to find true love, Kate Millington arrives in British Columbia on a bride ship. With countless men waiting to snag a bride, Kate has no trouble getting engaged. It’s staying engaged that’s the problem. After traveling to the remote mining town of Williamsville to marry her newest fiancé, she finds herself single again.

As the prosperous owner of a gold mine, Zeke Hart has everything he’s ever wanted except for a wife. At Kate’s arrival, he takes it upon himself to protect his childhood friend from the men clamoring to court her. The more he renews her friendship, the more he wants to win her for himself. But as much as Kate admires Zeke, she’s resolved not to marry someone who doesn’t share her faith.

When Zeke begins receiving anonymous threats, he unwittingly puts them both in grave danger. In the midst of peril, the past rises up to haunt them both, and Zeke realizes the fight for Kate’s affection may be his biggest challenge yet.

What Did I Think?

Wow, wow, WOW! I really thought that Jody Hedlund couldn’t make a book better than A Bride of Convenience, but this one was by far my FAVORITE!! So the story is about Kate Millington, who has accepted several marriage proposals, but hasn’t followed through with any of them, because she is afraid that she will make a huge mistake — you could say that she has been “almost a bride” several times. She actually came to Williamsville to marry Herb Frank, but she couldn’t go through with it and was rescued by her childhood crush, Zeke Hart. She starts to fall in love with Zeke again, but knows that she cannot have a relationship with him, because she cannot marry someone like her father. The rest of the story is AMAZING, but I don’t want to give any spoilers, so all I will say is that it’s a wonderful blend of romance, humor and suspense.

I absolutely loved how Kate would not go against her beliefs, even when it was apparent that it was breaking her heart. Another thing I loved reading was how Zeke’s character grew – how he was hunted by the guilt of his past, how he ran away from God but ultimately, how he found out that although he pushed God away, God didn’t (and wouldn’t) push him away. My FAVORITE part was the end of the story, When Zeke realizes just how he feels about Kate and his way of showing her is beyond sweet!! but I won’t say anymore then that. Overall, I LOVED this book and wish I could give it more then 5 stars (maybe 10?)

Rating: 5 out of 5.

A Bride of Convenience by Jody Hedlund – Review

Hi Readers, It’s finally the weekend!

Hopefully you can find time to sit down and read a great book and if you want to read a historical fiction, I have just the book for you to check out!

I absolutely loved Jody Hedlund’s latest book in the Bride Ships series, A Bride of Convenience and I can’t wait to show it to you! So without further ado, let me take you to British Columbia in the year 1863. Let’s go!

Book: A Bride of Convenience

Author: Jody Hedlund

Genre: Christian Historical Fiction

Series: The Bride Ships (book 3)

Release Date: June 30th 2020

From The Back Cover

Unemployed mill worker Zoe Hart jumps at the opportunity to emigrate to British Columbia in 1863 to find a better life and be reunited with her brother, who fled from home after being accused of a crime.

Pastor to miners in the mountains, Abe Merivale discovers an abandoned baby during a routine visit to Victoria and joins efforts with Zoe, one of the newly arrived bride-ship women, to care for the infant. While there, he’s devastated by the news from his fiancee in England that she’s marrying another man.

With mounting pressure to find the baby a home, Zoe accepts a proposal from a miner of questionable character after he promises to help her locate her brother. Intent on protecting Zoe and frustrated by his failed engagement, Abe offers his own hand as groom. After a hasty wedding, they soon realize their marriage of convenience is not so convenient after all.

What did I think?

As I mentioned above, this is book 3 in the The Bride Ship Series, but it could be read as a standalone. So first, the cover is gorgeous and although I like the info on the back cover, I just don’t think it does the book justice (there is just no way to get the how awesome the story is just by reading the back cover). As soon as I read the part where Zoe stood up for her friend and then risked getting sick to take care of her, I knew that I was going to fall in love with the characters in the book. There were two things that I absolutely loved about the story. The first one was that although Zoe thought she couldn’t find love and was happy just being a bride of convenience, God had other plans for her and not only did he protect her from a horrible marriage, but he gave her a godly husband who would love and cherish her for who she was (it would take a little time, but he would get there).

The second thing was the end of the story, Oh the ending was so unbelievably perfect that I couldn’t put it down and I didn’t want the story to end!! (seriously, I had a huge smile on my face while reading the last few chapters, and my sister thought I was losing it). I’ve read the first and second book in this series, but this one was by far by FAVORITE in the series, Correction, this is my favorite book that Jody Hedlund has written so far. I absolutely recommend this book and cannot wait for the next book!! I give the book 5 out of 5 stars.

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Here’s one of the many quotes that I LOVED from this book, just so you could have an idea of how awesome the book was.

“Maybe all God required was a willing heart and the trust that He’d work out the rest of the details in His timing and His Way.”

Quote from A Bride of Convenience by Jody Hedlund

The Crushing Depths by Dani Pettrey – Review

Hi Readers!

Hope you’re enjoying your Summer! I have the perfect book for you to read if you like to read romantic suspense and it’s by one of my favorite Suspense Authors, Dani Pettrey! So without further ado, here is The Crushing Depths by Dani Pettrey!

Book: The Crushing Depths

Author: Dani Pettrey

Genre: Christian Romantic Suspense

Series: Coastal Guardians

Release Date: June 30th 2020

From the Back Cover

They know the power and peril of the ocean. But as they get closer to the deadly truth… an even greater danger lurks just beneath the surface

When an accident claims the life of an oil-rig worker on the first drilling platform off the North Carolina coast, Coast Guard investigators Rissi Dawson and Mason Rogers are sent to take the case. Tensions surrounding the oil rig are high and the death has everyone on edge. Environmental activists are threatening to do whatever it takes to stop the structure from being completed, while rumors are being whispered about ancient curses surrounding this part of the ocean.

Mounting evidence shows the death may not have been an accident at all. Was he killed by one of the activists or, perhaps more frighteningly, a member of his own crew? Rissi and Mason have to sort through not only a plethora of suspects, but also their own past and attraction to each other.

Just as the case seems like it’ll break open, worse news arrives. A tropical storm has turned their way and soon they’re cut off from any rescue–and right where the killer wants them. It’s a race to discover his identity before he eliminates the threat they pose.

What Did I Think?

As I mentioned earlier, this is book two in the Coastal Guardian series, but it can be read as a standalone too (Although I recommend reading the first book, The Killing Tide because it’s awesome and because it gives you some of the back story on the characters). So first of all, I want to say that the cover is amazing and the story itself is just as awesome! I absolutely loved everything about this book and have so many highlights and bookmarks that I thought my Kindle was going to give me an error message every time I opened the book! Normally my favorite characters would be the main ones; however, in this book I loved all of them. There was so much going on throughout the story and each set of characters had their own unique challenges. Mason and Rissi were investigating an accident on an oil rig to determine if it was really an accident, and Emmy, Logan and Caleb were investigating the corporation that may have been responsible. Meanwhile, Noah was investigating who was threatening Brooke.

Although there is suspense threaded throughout the entire story, there is also a undertone of romance between several of the characters and moments where you see the way the team had become a family (which was another thing I loved). Overall, I loved the book and cannot wait until the third one – I just hope that it’s about Emmy and Logan. This book is another must read if you like romantic suspense and I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Here’s one of my favorite quotes:

“Living in the past only gives people who’ve hurt you more power over you. It’s best to forget them and move forward, never looking back.”

The sound of a loud crash turned his blood cold. Emma! The front door was wooden, old, with a flimsy deadbolt. Thunder boomed, and Reed took advantage. He rammed the door with a well-placed kick. His heel screamed in protest, but the wood splintered.“Come on, come on…” He focused his energy on the weak spot he’d created. He slammed into the door again. It shuddered and gave way. He entered the house, his flashlight moving over everything. A banister leading upstairs. A dining room to his right. A living room to his left. His breathing was ragged, but the hand holding his weapon was steady. Which way? Upstairs or toward the back of the house? He paused, straining to listen. There. A noise coming from the kitchen. He raced down the hallway. Someone was coughing. His flashlight caught a dark figure bolting out the back door. Reed swung to his left. Emma sat on the tile floor, one hand holding her neck. Her face was red and her longhair stuck out in all directions. Relief replaced the terror in her expression when she caught sight of him.

About the Book

 >>Click here to get your copy!

What Did I Think?

So this book is part of the Love Inspired Suspense collection and I have to say it’s the best one I’ve ever read! It kept me engaged from the very first page and it was incredibly hard to put down. Occasionally, the Love Inspired Suspense books can be a bit predictable because of their small size (only about 224 pages), but this one wasn’t predictable at all – I don’t want to give any spoilers, but I’ll tell you that there’s so many twists in the story that at times you don’t know who is good and who isn’t.

The book starts out with Deputy Lawson (the main character) finding his ex-fiance Ashlee, (the other character) and realizing that she has amnesia. She has no recollection of who she is or why she’s in a car filled with bullet holes, all she knows that she feels safe when Lawson is around. Lawson has no idea why God has brought his ex-fiance back in his life, but he wonders if he’s been given a second chance. Throughout the story you see the two characters grow close to each other, but the shocking revelation at the end may ruin the relationship they thought they had.

Overall, I think this is a definite Must Read and I’m so excited that this is the beginning of a series!

I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars!!

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Blessed to come from a large, southern family, her fondest memories include listening to stories recounted by family and friends around the large dinner table. She was a lover of books even from a young age, devouring gothic romance novels and stories of romance, danger, and love. She soon started writing them herself. A former investigator for the State of Mississippi, Virginia utilizes her criminal justice background with her love of writing to transform words into powerful stories of romance and danger.

More from Virginia

Thanks for joining me for a brand new adventure. TEXAS TWIN ABDUCTION is the first book in my new Cowboy Lawmen series and it’s a departure from what I normally write. I love writing about cops and serial killers so when my editor first suggested the cowboy/western theme, I was hesitant. I’m a city girl at heart so this was so far out of my comfort zone! But I couldn’t resist for long. After all, who doesn’t love a cowboy? Thankfully, I found a way to merge what I loved—law enforcement, FBI, US Marshals—with the cowboy/family themed books my editor wanted to see by making my group of hero brothers a family of law enforcement types with ties to the family ranch. The best of both words. Score!

Book one in this new series, TEXAS TWIN ABDUCTION, begins with my hero, little brother Lawson Avery, in a quandary. All he ever wanted out of life was to run his family’s Texas ranch, but his ex-fiancée Ashlee’s final words to him as she skipped out on their wedding was that his desire for the simple life made him unambitious and unworthy of her love. Her words broke him, sending him searching for something more meaningful to do with his life, eventually winding up as a deputy in the sheriff’s office. But, despite law enforcement being in his blood, Lawson finally realized that life wasn’t for him and made plans to return to the ranch. However, his plans are sidetracked when he finds Ashlee unconscious on the side of the road in a bullet-ridden car with no memory of him or their past together. When it becomes clear that someone wants her dead, Lawson steps in to act as her protector. But will digging into the mysteries of her past cost him the future he still longs to have with her?

I hope you enjoy this book and this brand new series! Look for the next book—older brother US Marshal Miles Avery’s story—coming in TEXAS HOLIDAY HIDEOUT this October.

Roseanna is the author of a slew of historical novels that span several continents and thousands of years. Spies and war and mayhem always seem to find their way into her books…to offset her real life, which is blessedly ordinary. You can learn more about her and her stories at www.RoseannaMWhite.com.
